Tiny Tim Video: Living in the Sunlight, Loving in the Moonlight

I'm sort of stunned that this is my first Tiny Tim reference on this here blog.  For shame!  I should let everyone know that I LOVE Tiny Tim.  I used to watch him on Laugh-in when I was a kid and he blew my mind.  I even have a "God Bless Tiny Tim" t-shirt somewhere, I should link to that.  Hmm... shoot.  I don't see it for sale anywhere, but look at this Tiny Tim Shirt.

Anyway, I'm getting distracted.  I started this post to talk about a rad Youtube video I found of Tiny Tim performing "Living in the Sunlight, Loving in the Moonlight" on Australian TV.  This appears to be right at his prime.  If you've watched a lot of Tiny Tim videos, you might notice that when he plays with any sort of accompaniment, he sometimes gets a little off track.  I think he just spent much of his career playing solo that he sometimes forgets that he can't change tempo or insert random breaks in the songs (to do hilarious gestures or faces) without derailing the orchestra.  But, in this video he's rock steady! Enjoy!

Mel Bay Learn To Play Fingerstyle Solos for Ukulele

@steveberryman, on Twitter, asked me the following:

any recommendations for uke tabs with some easyish, but nice sounding picking songs?

So, I did a little bit of digging and I think I might have found the best option, for a book anyway.  I've been trying to pick up some different strumming patterns on Youtube, but I've also wanted to find a source for some advanced picking styles as well.  I think I might buy this and then I can give it an in-depth review.

There are a total of 7 reviews and 6 of them are the full 5 stars.  The 7th review is 4 stars, so that seems like a pretty decent recommendation in itself.  I own quite a few Mel Bay books for guitar and I've always found them very clear and straightforward, so hopefully that's the case for his Uke books.

Rare Pre-war Martin Ukulele on Ebay

Can someone call my wife and tell her that I've fallen for someone else?  I think she'll understand once she sees the pictures.  I mean, look at this thing!  It's gorgeous!  Not only that but it's incredibly rare.  I mean, a Rare Martin Pre-War K-3 Soprano Ukulele doesn't just show up every day.

Besides the general rarity of this ukulele, though, it's in almost mint condition.  Gah!  If I only knew people who were worth killing to someone else.  Err.. . I mean.  Nevermind.  No no.. I'd never consider renting myself out as a professional assassin just to pay for a ukulele addiction.  That'd be ridiculous.

Archtop Tenor Jazz Sunburst Ukulele with F-holes

Holy smokes, that is a pretty Ukulele!  It looks like something that Les Paul would play if he were still with us (and he was rocking a Ukulele).  I'm reading the auction notes and it looks like this is a brand new design.  That makes sense, because I don't think I've ever seen anything like this.  It comes with a custom-made black canvas hardshell case as well.  Dang.

The price is really reasonble.  You could easily spend $240 on another Ukulele, but I'd be surprised if you could get one as beautiful and as well-made as this little number.

I know I told everyone it was my birthday last week, when I was asking  all to buy me the $30,000 Tiple Ukulele.  Well.. I was lying.  BUT now it really is my birthday. 😉  Gimme this beautiful uke!

Original Song: Moderation Town by Ukulele Guy

So, I made some ridiculous promise on Twitter that I'd make a new song post every #MusicMonday.  Something tells me I'm going to regret that, but I'm not breaking the deal yet!

So, here's a vaguely new song fragment that I wrote.  I apparently have ADD because I like em short and sweet.

I should also mention that I mean the reference to Puerto Rican women in the most flattering way possible.  I, myself, had the privilege of dating a foxy Puerto Rican girl in high school for a year or two.  Ahh... Rosana Benhilde Lopez... I wonder what she's up to now?
