Flying V Ukulele! Do I have to drive to Vancouver now?

From vancouverisawesome.com comes this awesome photo of a flying V ukulele.

I need me one of those.  Pronto!  I also have to agree with the name of that blog site.  I've only been to Vancouver once, but it ruled.  My "heavy new wave" band (which doesn't feature Ukulele, sadly) was on tour and we played with the Salteens.  Canada is like a magical land where everyone is nice and Paul McCartney is president.  Their indie pop is the best in the world and the musicians are government sponsored?!  Awesome!

Slightly distracted from Ukuleles for once. Gasp!

So.  Here's the deal.  I might be slightly distracted from  Ukuleles for the next day or two.  I know, I know.... it's shocking.  Here's the deal.  Ukulele Guy (yup, I'm using the 3rd person) is also in a  "Heavy New Wave" band where he plays guitar and, on Friday, we are opening for Shonen  Knife.  While this might not be a big deal to many people, it is something that I'm considering having immortalized on my headstone.

So... If I'm a little off, please forgive me.

Luv,

Ukulele Guy

Tiny Tim Video: Living in the Sunlight, Loving in the Moonlight

I'm sort of stunned that this is my first Tiny Tim reference on this here blog.  For shame!  I should let everyone know that I LOVE Tiny Tim.  I used to watch him on Laugh-in when I was a kid and he blew my mind.  I even have a "God Bless Tiny Tim" t-shirt somewhere, I should link to that.  Hmm... shoot.  I don't see it for sale anywhere, but look at this Tiny Tim Shirt.

Anyway, I'm getting distracted.  I started this post to talk about a rad Youtube video I found of Tiny Tim performing "Living in the Sunlight, Loving in the Moonlight" on Australian TV.  This appears to be right at his prime.  If you've watched a lot of Tiny Tim videos, you might notice that when he plays with any sort of accompaniment, he sometimes gets a little off track.  I think he just spent much of his career playing solo that he sometimes forgets that he can't change tempo or insert random breaks in the songs (to do hilarious gestures or faces) without derailing the orchestra.  But, in this video he's rock steady! Enjoy!

Will Smith raps with Ukulele

Hmm... I'm tempted to just let this speak for itself.

Nope.  I can't do it.  Honestly, Will Smith is someone that I love to hate, but I might secretly like.  Just don't tell anyone.  Growing up, I think I was just a few years too old for the Fresh Prince (and the Carlton dance and whatnot), but my younger brothers ate that shit up!

Everytime there was a new Will Smith song I would moan and wail and gnash my teeth.  But, alone in my car, you can definitely catch me bobbing my head to Summertime.  There.. it's off my chest, I can rest easier now that my secret is out.  You know, now that it's out, what's say someone works on a ukulele dance routine for the Fresh Prince dance?  You know the one, it starts with "Don't stop, get it, get it.."  Heh.

New Flight of the Conchords – Oct 20th

Once again, I'm posting a news item that isn't 100% ukulele-related, but I can almost guarantee that there will be a ukulele track on this record.  I can say this with confidence because Brett McKenzie, from Flight of the Conchords, is co-founder of the Wellington Ukulele Orchestra in New Zealand.  The new record is called "I Told You I was Freaky" and it's coming out on October 20th.  However you can already pre-order it on Amazon.  Woo hoo!  Now I can get my dance moves ready for "Sugar Lumps".
